Editorial Independence Policy
We subscribe to standards of editorial independence, retaining full authority over editorial content to protect the best journalistic interests of our publication, the information needs of our audience and the business needs of our organization.
While we are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization relying on charitable contributions, we maintain a firewall between editorial decisions and sources of funding. We accept donations and grants from individuals and organizations for the support of our activities, but our news judgments are not influenced by donors.
The Accountability Journalism Institute and Important Context may accept contributions to support specific programs or focuses of our work, but we maintain editorial control over all coverage. We will never allow review or influence of editorial content.
We will make public all donors contributing $5,000 or more per year. We will accept anonymous donations only if sufficient safeguards are in place to ensure the expenditure of that contribution is made independently by our organization. We will only accept unrestricted anonymous grants.
