The Accountability Journalism Institute’s investigative reporting newsroom, Important Context, debunks mis-, dis-, and mal-information and exposes the individuals, organizations, and financial networks that fuel it. Our in-depth investigations into the politicization of public health, the COVID-19 pandemic, and vaccine misinformation have earned recognition from leading scientists, medical professionals, and journalists.

Founded in 2022 to counter efforts that erode trust in America’s vital institutions, our nonprofit newsroom has occupied a critical space at the intersection of public health and money-in-politics reporting, bringing essential scrutiny to the forces shaping public discourse. Through partnerships with other newsrooms, including Rolling Stone, Sludge, and The Center for Media and Democracy, Important Context has produced impactful investigations on the influence of dark money and the anti-vaccine movement. Our work has directly supported science communicators in their efforts to counter misinformation with clarity and evidence.

Through vigilance and collaboration, we ensure the public has access to critical information and the necessary context to navigate an increasingly complex media landscape. While some political actors seek to recast scientific truths as ideological battlegrounds, we remain steadfast in our commitment to reporting the facts—no matter how inconvenient they may be.
